Grand Stade de Tanger (Stade Ibn Batouta)

Reopened on 14 November 2025 after two years of work, the Ibn Batouta stadium holds 75,600 — the largest in Morocco until Benslimane opens.

Opened in 2011 with 45,000 seats, the Grand Stade de Tanger was first expanded (to 65,000) and then extensively renovated between 2023 and 2025. Reopened on 14 November 2025, it holds 75,600. It is about 13 km from the centre, close to the motorway and the airport.

The stadium is ready. Plans to expand it to 87,000 or more than 90,000 seats with a full roof circulated in 2024; there is no confirmation in 2026 that they are funded or scheduled — they should not be taken for granted. The Moroccan bid positions it for a semi-final, with no FIFA allocation.

Getting there

There is no major public transport link to the stadium: a petit taxi costs 70 to 100 dirhams from the centre (about 30 minutes), 100 to 150 dirhams from the airport. More than 7,500 parking spaces. From Spain: ferry Tarifa–Tanger Ville (about 1 hour) or Algeciras–Tanger Med (about 1 h 30 min, with the port 45 km away).
