Santiago Bernabéu

Opened in December 1947 on the Paseo de la Castellana, the Santiago Bernabéu was transformed between 2019 and 2024 by a renovation costed at between €1.2 and €1.8 billion depending on the source: a retractable roof, a retractable pitch stored beneath the field, a steel façade and a 360° screen. It now holds a little over 83,000 spectators.

Set in the middle of Madrid, one metro change from the city centre, it is a very easy stadium to get to: hotels, restaurants and transport are all within easy reach.

The Bernabéu is one of the three candidates for the final on 21 July 2030, along with the Camp Nou and the Grand Stade Hassan II. FIFA has decided nothing: in January 2026 it pointed out that the host city of the final is usually announced about two years before the tournament.

On 27 January 2026, the president of the Spanish federation, Rafael Louzán, stated that the final would be played in Spain; FIFA judged the statement premature. In early August 2026, contradictory reports suggested either that the final had been promised to Morocco, or a scenario of “2029 Club World Cup for Morocco, 2030 final for Madrid”. Nothing official.

One sticking point: the minimum capacity FIFA requires for the final is quoted as 80,000 or 85,000 seats depending on the source. Real Madrid announced works in the summer of 2025 to push past 85,000, a figure that has not been independently confirmed.

Getting there

Metro line 10, Santiago Bernabéu station. Note: the Nuevos Ministerios–Cuzco section of line 10 has been closed for engineering work since March 2026 and stays shut until the end of 2026; a free shuttle bus (SE10) is running, otherwise allow 15 minutes on foot from Nuevos Ministerios along the Castellana.
